The 15th annual Davitt Awards were held on Saturday 29th of August to celebrate crime fiction writing by female authors.
Sulari Gentill is no stranger to these awards. Her second novel in theRowland Sinclair Mystery Series, A Decline in Prophets, won the Davitt Award in 2012 for Best Crime Writing. In 2013 the fourth novel in the series, Paving the New Road, was shortlisted for the award. This year Sulari has found further success, with her sixth instalment, A Murder Unmentioned, taking home the Highly Commended prize for Best Adult Crime Fiction.
Speaking about her Davitt accomplishment, Sulari said “The nature of the crime writing community is such that finding yourself on the Davitt shortlist means not only that you are among writers you’ve long admired, but that they are very often your friends. There is something wonderfully collegiate about the Davitt. It makes it a particularly special award.”
A Murder Unmentioned was also the only fiction title shortlisted for the Australian Publishers Associations’ Small Publishers’ Best Adult Book for 2015. It is currently nominated in the Prime Minster’s Literary Awards, the Queensland Literary Awards and was shortlisted for a Ned Kelly Award. ‘The awards just keep coming for A Murder Unmentioned,” said Alison Green, CEO and Founder of Pantera Press. In addition to this, Pantera Press were thrilled to discover that A Murder Unmentioned’s recent magnetic promotional campaign won the Australian Promotional Products Award (APPA) Platinum Award for Excellence in August.
