A is for Author
A master of creation known to make people believe things that aren’t true.
B is for Book
A portable sanctuary. Made up of words on pages. May also be used to increase the height of small children, increase the stability of poorly-built furniture, or serve as a doorstop. See “D”.
C is for Character
“An alternative word for an imaginary friend, to be used in the presence of narrow minded and/or unimaginative people.” – as defined by Urban Dictionary.
D is for Doorstop
Can be sourced from a variety of materials, including, but not limited to, books. See “B”.
E is for Editor
A master of literary finesse and polish. Often found making cups of tea or contributing to the Pantera Press Minties shortage of 2016. Also known to be really, really ridiculously good looking.
F is for Fiction
Not fact.
G is for Ghostwriting
Writing about ghosts. Not to be confused with the act of authoring books, manuscripts, screenplays, speeches, articles, stories, reports, blog posts* or other texts that are officially credited to another person.
*I would never.
H is for Hobby
An activity you perform which is not working or sleeping. OR something you enjoy doing until you decide to make it your profession. See “Reader” and “Writing.”
I is for Imagination
“The greatest super power a person can have.” – as defined by Urban Dictionary.
J is for Joke
A thing that publishers attempt with varying degrees of success.
K is for Keyboard
A tool used to type out the words of a book/novel, or to bash one’s head against during the onset of writer’s block. See “W”.
L is for Language
A device invented to disguise our true thoughts.
M is for Manuscript
The heart and soul of a person condensed into 70,000-100,000 words.
N is for Novel
A collection of words and spaces on pages that transport readers to other worlds.
O is for Overkill
When you kill all the characters in your book. For further explanation, see Shakespeare and/or George R.R. Martin.
P is for Pantera Press
The best publishing company whose books you will ever have the good fortune of reading.
Q is for Quickie
A brief act of reading that is to the point, exciting, and usually quite intense. E.g. I took a break from writing this blog post to have a quickie with Moby Dick.
R is for Reader
Historically, a person who entertained cigar factory workers by reading books or newspapers aloud. Now, one who passes their time with the most noble pastime known to humanity.
S is for Synonym
A linguist’s favourite spice.
T is for Title
A name given to a book that offers little-to-no insight into plot or storyline. For more information, see honest book titles.
U is for Unsolicited

V is for Voracious
The only type of reader one should aspire to be.
W is for Writing
The act of. Often preceded by writer’s block: a point in the writing process where the writer is unable to begin or continue work on a piece of writing.* May result in the writer bashing their head repeatedly into their keyboard/laptop/notebook until words or blood flow freely.
*The author of this blog post will neither confirm nor deny experiencing writer’s block during the creation of this post.
X is for Xylophone
Because no other word in the English language begins with the letter X.
Y is for Yessss
The sound uttered when a literary diamond is discovered within the walls of the Pantera Press office.
Z is for Zinger
